Jazz And Bossa Nova with Enrico Granafei

Trumpets Jazz Club, 6 Depot Square, Montclair, NJ

Enrico Granafei-guitar/chromatic harmonica/vocals & Yashmin Charnet-Abler Brazilian Bossa Nova Singer Enrico Granafei has a long history of musical experience that encompasses both classical music and jazz. He received his degree in classical guitar from the Conservatory of l’Aquila in Italy in 1976 and his artistic career started in Rome where he soon became known in the musical community. In 1992 Granafei received his master’s degree in Jazz Performance from the Manhattan School of Music where he was the only student of Toots Thielemans. His love for jazz led him to New York City, where he soon started to perform in local jazz clubs including The Blue Note, Birdland,Visiones, Angry Squire, and the Bottom Line. He has performed extensively on the chromatic harmonica in the United States and continued to be a featured musician in major European Festivals, including Pori Jazz Festival (Finland), Euromeet Jazz Festival and Veneto Jazz Festival (Italy), and other jazz festivals throughout Italy, France, Spain and major clubs throughout Europe. Granafei has been the owner and musical director of the prestigious Trumpets Jazz Club in Montclair, New Jersey since 1999. One of the most respected players of the Chromatic Harmonica in the world today, Granafei continues to cultivate an audience for the instrument through his international performances. As jazz pianist/historian Lewis Porter says: “This could be the start of something big for harmonica players everywhere.”   This singer / song writer was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, coming from the generation that revolutionized the spirit, sound and style, Yashmin came to acquire and harness a uniquely Brazilian sound. As a poet Yashmin’s soul was profoundly touched by the conversation of Bossa Nova. The influences of Vinicius de Moraes, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto became her inspiration and calling for a future paved among the artistic movement in Rio de Janeiro with the contemporaries of the Bossa Nova.   Yashmin’s education includes the prestigious Musica de Minas Escola Livre, a progressive music academy established by two of the most influential musicians from the post-Bossa Nova era Milton Nascimento and Wagner Tiso and the Oficina de Teatro de Minas (Theater School) directed by Pedro Paulo Cava. Combining both the interpretation of drama and music added an exclusive layer to her performances. Within these artistic academies her soothing, sensual voice and passionate emotion stood out among her peers. Soon her professional ability lead her to a dual career as a radio disc jockey, while at the same time performing in some of the most exclusive nightclubs and lounges in Rio. Her love affair with Bossa Nova music continues to this very day.   Yashmin has performed and/or recorded with David Kikoski, James Carter, Juan Colon, Paul Abler, Sean Smith, Cameron Brown, Adriano Santos, Sean Smith, Helio Alves, Ted Rosenthal, John DiMartino, The Spirit of Life Ensemble, Chip Jackson, Ted Curson, Calvin Hill, Allen Farnham and many others.   Merging the harmonies of Bossa Nova and other Brazilian Flavors with a unique Latin Jazz style, Yashmin has created an irresistible blend of melody and rhythm that will certainly move your hearts, souls and bodies. “Yashmin Charnet is a unique and gifted woman. Her interpretations of the Bossa Nova classics are a breath of fresh air and her charismatic personality really makes for a magnificent show.” Steve Messina – blow up hollywood
